Do Your Employees Work from Home? How to Increase Their Productivity

In today’s workplace, working from home is becoming increasingly common. Employers are allowing some of their employees to work from home, when possible. As an employer, it’s understandable that this can be a bit nerve-wracking. You’re leaving your employees to their own devices, hoping they get all of their work done. Our team at High Profile has designed this post to help you increase the productivity of your workers that are working from home.

Start by keeping the lines of communication open between the employees at the office and those at home. It’s important to maintain contact with your employees that are working at home. Let them know what is expected of them, even though they aren’t in the office. The more communication the better.

Talk with the employee each morning and give him a daily to-do list. We aren’t talking big projects here, just minor things that you would like them to get done. A list of tasks will help keep the employee on track and reduce the urge to procrastinate.

Include employees on conference calls and in-office meetings by allowing them to call or videoconference in. Even though someone is working from home, it’s still important they maintain interaction with their peers. When you’re scheduling a department meeting, don’t forget to include the employee who is working from home. They are just as much a part of the department as everyone else.

Whatever you do, don’t think that employees who work from home should always be “on”.  They may not be working a typical 9-5 shift, but they also shouldn’t be working 24/7. They need to take breaks just like everyone else, and should maintain a similar schedule.

Know that when you allow employees to work from home, you need to be flexible as a boss. It may take time to get into the swing of things, but give it a chance. After all, allowing employees to work from home provides great benefits to employers. One of the main benefits being decreased operational costs.
