Hiring Outlook in Dallas

Last year, Biz Journal wrote an article entitled: “Here is why the DFW job market continues to sizzle”, and listed several reasons the hiring outlook in Dallas was so good for workers. The Dallas/Fort Worth area was described as having a low unemployment rate, a high volume of jobs, and offering a low cost of living.

Dallas was also named as #15 on U.S. News and World Report’s list of best places to live, receiving an overall score of 7.1 out of 10. The job market in the area was one of the reasons why Dallas ranked so high, with average salaries in the Dallas/Fort Worth area exceeding national averages. Why is the job market so good?

  • Diversification. There is job growth in many different industries in the DFW area. Biz Journal indicates the hiring outlook is good for IT, finance, healthcare, construction, and tech.
  • Many large corporations are headquartered in North Texas. US News & World Report lists numerous “corporate giants” with headquarters in North Texas, including State Farm and Toyota. A high concentration of large companies means plenty of jobs. Because these companies have large staffs, jobs are also created in many other industries to provide support and services – like restaurants and clothing stores catering to workers.
  • A high number of jobs relative to the population. According to Biz Insider, the ratio of available jobs in comparison to the population is higher in Dallas/Fort Worth than in many other cities including Miami, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. There were 252 available jobs per 100,000 residents in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

The economy nationwide is improving this year as well, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, so the hiring outlook in Dallas should be impacted positively by the employment gains occurring nationwide.
