Applying for an Administrative Position? Highlight These Aspects of Your Resume

Administrative positions are heavily relied upon in offices and come in a variety of titles. For example, Office Manager, Executive Assistant, and Receptionist are all considered administrative positions. If you’re applying for an administrative position, you’ve found the right post. Our team at High Profile has created this post to help you discover what aspects to highlight on your resume.

At the top of your resume, list your objective. The objective gives an employer a brief summary of who you are and what you are planning to do for the company. The objective can be brief.  For example, if you were applying for an Executive Assistant position, your objective might read, “Experienced executive assistant seeking full-time position in a growing company.”

When you list your work experience, make sure to start with the most recent position first. Some items to highlight that will make you stand out include:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Travel scheduling capabilities
  • Self-starter
  • Highly motivated

If you have any certifications, make sure you list them on your resume. Administrative professionals are the glue that holds offices together, so it’s important to show that you have taken initiative to further your education outside of your regular schooling.

Many administrative professionals need to be computer savvy. List all of the computer skills you have, including (but not limited to): Microsoft Office, Outlook, and any potential design programs. If typing will be a large part of your position, make sure to include your words per minute.

If you don’t want to provide references with your resume, it’s a good idea to include a section where you offer to provide references. A simple line at the bottom of your resume will show employers that you are willing to give more information if they are interested.  It can be as simple as, “References available upon request.”

These tips will get you off to a great start when applying to administrative positions. If you’re looking for more information before you start applying, contact one of our expert recruiters today. We’re here to help!
