Thank You Notes: A Way to Set Yourself Apart from the Crowd

In today’s competitive job market, landing a job can be very difficult, but there are things you can do to stand out from the crowd.  One of these things is writing (and mailing) a handwritten thank you note after your interview. With all things digital these days, the art of the handwritten thank you note has become lost. Sending a thank you note to the interviewer shows your gratitude for the time and effort they spent with you. There are many important aspects to perfecting the handwritten thank you note, and our team at High Profile is here to give you the top tips.

Get a business card from every person involved in the interview process. This means that you may be writing more than one card. Getting their business cards is a great way to get all of their professional information without spending hours searching Google.

Send the thank you note as soon as possible. You want the recipient to get the note while the interview is still fresh in his mind. To make sure you get the thank you card done, write the note the same day or the morning after your interview.

Personalize the note. As we mentioned above, you might be sending thank you notes to more than one person. Make sure each note is personally tailored to the individual recipient. Find something different you can write in each note. This is another reason why you should write the note immediately after the interview while everything is fresh in your mind.

Reiterate how much you appreciate the employer taking the time to see you. The interviewer took time out of his busy day to see you, and you should be appreciative. Make sure you say so in the note. He will appreciate that you acknowledged and are thankful for his time.

Add an action item. You don’t want to send a thank you note without a follow-up item. Write something along the lines of, “I look forward to hearing from you soon.” Let the employer know that you are interested in the position and can’t wait to hear back.

When signing the thank you note, don’t forget to add your contact information so the employer can easily get in touch with you. For more tips on writing the perfect thank you note, click here or contact the experienced recruiters at High Profile Staffing today!
