Using Social Media to Hire

It’s safe to say that social media isn’t going anywhere. If your organization doesn’t have a strong social media presence, you’re behind the eight ball! In fact, social media is one of the best — and most common — ways to attract and place the best talent in your area.

Here are four ways to use social media to help in the hiring process:

Share Jobs via Social Media

The first and most obvious way to use your social media channels is to share jobs via your company’s social platforms. Most companies across a variety of industries do this, including in the recruiting world — according to Betterteam, 94 percent of professional recruiters use social media to post jobs. Make the post attention-grabbing to reel in job seekers, link it to a full description of the position, and you’re bound to see applications for the job increase.

Profile Employers

Social media is also a great way to profile the top employers in your area. You can share a write-up on what makes the company such a great place to work; link to an audio or video interview with the company’s hiring manager or department head; or simply link to the company’s Careers page. These efforts point job seekers directly to the companies in your area that are taking the most applicants.

Highlight Career Fairs

Why not use your social media channels to remind users about upcoming career fairs or job expos? You can even post about these kinds of things multiple times in the months, weeks and days leading up to such events. It’s a great way to use social media to keep your organization at the top of job seekers’ minds, and it gets job seekers in the doors at local career events — which means they’re likely to stop by your booth.

Host Competitions and Giveaways

Another way to leverage social media in the hiring world is by hosting competitions or giveaways. Try rewarding your social media followers by promising a free resume tune-up, or a mock interview training session, if a post reaches a certain number of “likes.” Give away merchandise to three lucky commenters who leave a comment on your post. These efforts engage directly with your social media audience to get your name out there in an even bigger way.
