Strategies to Build A Stronger Relationship with Your Recruiter

Recruiters develop strong relationships with companies, which is why job seekers need to stay connected with them. Here at High Profile Staffing, we have clients that have been with us from day one. We know a good recruiter will help you land an interview, but a great recruiter will help you nail it. When you establish a deep connection with your recruiter, he or she knows your talents, abilities, goals and needs. The recruiter will go that extra mile to help you land the job of your dreams. Here are a few tips to help you build a stronger relationship with your recruiter.

Express your needs

Explain your needs so your recruiter can help find positions that will be a good fit for your goals. Are you willing to work remotely? Do you need a job that will let you pick your kids up from school? Be sure to discuss your needs with your recruiter and let them know where you can be flexible.

Be a collaborative partner

Your recruiter is your partner, not your workhorse. Job consultants, employment coaches and staffing agencies are all great resources to help you land your next job. But remember, these qualified professionals also have other job seekers they are working with. So, be patient and polite. When an opportunity arises that is the right fit, they will come to you. They can help you with resume writing, interviewing and, most importantly, making connections.

Connect and catch up often

Make it part of your Monday morning routine to call or email your recruiter. Weekly check-ins are a great way to stay connected and make sure you stay at the top of the list in your recruiter’s mind. Be sure to ask if there is anything you could or should be doing on your end. Is there a position that you might be eligible for, but need a resume rewrite? Rewrite your resume.  Are there positions you’ve found that could be a good fit? Send them to your recruiter to determine if they have connections there.

Be honest about your work history

Gaps in your resume? Be upfront. Take the time to explain your work history in detail to your recruiter. This makes their jobs much easier. When a client approaches them with a question about your experience, they can answer right away and keep progressing forward. Address any major or minor concerns you think a potential employer might have so your recruiter can do less research when it comes to presenting your resume for a position.
